I don't think you can transfer Starwood points when you buy a time share resale but I'm not positive. I do know that Marriott time share points don't transfer but you can upgrade your time share from Gold to Silver and or the Platinum rated ownership.

Starpoints do not transfer with a resale.

If you buy certain resale Starwood timeshares you can exchange it for other Starwood timeshares using the Starwood Vacation Network(SVN) if you buy it at one of five 'Mandatory' Starwood Resorts(see below). Otherwise access to the SVN is prohibited.

Mandatory Starwood Resorts

• Harborside at Atlantis
• Vistana Villages (Key West & Bella phases only)
• Westin St. John (Virgin Grand - Hillside only)
• Westin Ka'anapali & Westin Ka'anapali-North
• Westin Kierland Villas

are the starpoints really that important? what do they allow a Starwood time share owner to do? if i can transfer within the svn if purchasing a the Harborside at Atlantis resort for example then that gives me the versatility i want, so what exactly would i be missing with not able to get the points?

Starpoints are hotel points that can be used for Starwood hotel visits, airfare various buys from Starwood's Preferred Guest Program. So, most timeshare enthusiasts find their importance to be of little value when vacationing and the opinion of most is that the savings obtained when buying resale Starwood timeshares greatly outweighs this unattainable attribute.

So, Wendall, your stated ability to transfer within the SVN if buying at one of Starwood's Mandatory timeshare resorts does provide you with the versatility you seek.

Also, just for the purpose of clarification, Staroptions(another term often used within the SVN) are the Starwood timeshares value of exchange within the Starwood Vacation Network(SVN). Each individual Starwood timeshare is designated a certain Staroption value for exchange.
