Question Timeshare Home Resort for DVC

My husband and I are thinking seriously of buying into the Disney Vacation Club. We have kids and live in Florida and it seems like a nearby vacation opportunity. We haven't stayed in any of the Disney Resorts yet, but we are pretty much sold on the advantages of family vacations in timeshares. My question, at this point, is how do I figure out the home resort we would want to purchase at? Of course, cost is a consideration, but we do want value for our money. Which things are most important to consider?

Go for it! You will not be dissapointed with Disney Vacation Club timeshare resorts. I've stayed at Disney's Animal Kingdom and I/we/my kids love it. We saw all kinds of animals and at anytime you could step out on the balcony and see a baby Giraffe or a Water Buffalo. All the DVC timeshares have something special to offer.

When you buy you get points to use at any resort but the cost of your points are based upon your home timeshare resort. New the points are $104 tp $108 per point and on the timeshare resale market (like this website) you'll find them for under $90 per point. If you ever want to sell your DVC ownership, you'll sell your DVC points week quickly. demand is high and they hold value. Go ahead and buy the best but make sure you buy Resale not Retail and you'll save thousands.

Thanks parker

Smile Timeshare Home Resort Choice

SecretMe,
You are on the right track. However, what seems important to one person can be different from the next. In addition to the resorts theme, you would want to consider location, on or off property, how old is the resort, size of rooms and their layouts, the rooms' decor. Maybe you value the range of recreational activities offered...pools, hot tubs, golf course, gyms or recreational rooms.
It's important to me that there are good places to eat nearby, if not in the resort. And my grandkids want to be close to their favorite park. I'm not really wild about huge resorts either.
Check the annual maintenance fees to see which is lowest. Be sure how many years are left on the sellers contract. And consult a points chart so you'll know what's required to book a certain accommodation at any of the resorts. Hope that gives you some food for thought.
Good luck finding your perfect family vacation plan on the resale market!
