How Do You Vacation? - Do your and/or your family vacation for one week at a time, or for three and four-day intervals? Do you vacation every year or every other? How often are you likely to return to the same timeshare resort/area/location? We advise you begin by the process of buying a timeshare by answering these basic questions. If your you and/or your family takes shorter vacations, you might be better off buying a points-based timeshare ownership rather than a fixed/floating timeshare week. If you only vacation every two years, a biennial odd or even-year timeshare ownership would be more cost effective than an annual/every-year timeshare ownership. Once you've evaluated your needs and what you want, you can move on to choosing a desirable location.
Buy Where You Plan To Travel - Timeshare vacations offer the best value when you purchase at a location you expect to return to at least once every 5 vacations or so. High pressure resort developer sales presentations often imply the location of ownership doesn't matter leaving new timeshare owners disappointed when they attempt to exchange. Keep in mind that exchange privileges are just that: privileges, not guarantees and more often than not your specific resort/developer and ownerships 'exchange power' will come into play. If you purchase where you like to travel, you'll still enjoy vacation on years where exchanges are unavailable.
What Type Of Accommodations You Want? - Typically, most timeshare accommodations will far exceed those of a typical hotel, however timeshares themselves have a rating system denoting their level of luxury and amenities. Do you want a simple, clean unit, with limited amenities and value pricing? Choose a resort without an
RCI or
Interval International award. Do you expect the highest level of service, amenities, and furnishings? Choose an
RCI Gold Crown, or
Interval International Premier rated property. Visit
www.rci.com or
Interval International | Resort, Timeshare, Exchange, Getaways, Vacation to review resort ratings, and choose a property that fits your budget and expectations.
Visit The Timeshare Resort You Want To Purchase - If you have not done so already, on a timeshare tour presentation, visit the resort you'd like to purchase by perhaps renting a unit from an owner offering their for rent. Examine the condition of the grounds and facilities, talk to the staff of the resort, note the condition of units, and inspect the surrounding real estate. Although timeshare should not be considered investment property, the overall conditions at the many different timeshare resorts will have a bearing on future resale value. Many of the sellers advertising their timeshares for sale with
TimeShare Adventures are willing to rent you a week to 'test-drive' the timeshare before making an offer.
Decide What You're Willing to Pay - There are no accurate appraisals available for timeshare properties. Ultimately, the price of any timeshare is what a willing buyer will pay, and what a willing seller will accept. If you have previously toured the resort, you may have some idea of what units are selling for, and you can make your offer accordingly. If you've not, or if the resort is no longer selling timeshare, you should base your offer on the value of usage the timeshare provides you. When compared to vacation at a hotel the value/savings is substantial(especially over time). Take a look at this easy to use
