I'm intriqued by Disney properties as well, great for family vacations--
Here is info I've found on Disney points:
DVC members own Vacation Points, which are used to "pay" for reservations made through the Disney Vacation Club. These points may be used at the member’s home resort up to 11 months in advance and up to 7 months in advance at other DVC resorts. Points may also be used for reservations at other WDW resorts, Disney Cruise Line and many other accommodations worldwide.
Anyone may "rent" point reservations from DVC members and DVC members may transfer points between one another. Transactions between DVC members and others are provided for in the Member Guidelines of the Disney Vacation Club. However these transactions are entirely conducted without the assistance of the Disney Information Station (other than providing the Rent/Trade Board forum) or DVC (other than making the actual reservation or other transfer of points).
Members, wishing to provide points for use in reservations to others, may list their availability on the Rent/Trade Board. Once contacted by a prospective "renter", details of this transaction should be agreed upon by the listing member and the "renter". The listing member should indicate his/her preferences as to how the transaction will be handled- including cost of the transaction, deposit required, and form and timing of payment.
Disney Vacation Club is hands down the best vacation property program setup for families. Disney is one of the few resorts that will act upon the "first right of refusal"; if your selling your points at an inexpensive price. This allows Disney to maintain their points value, and that's by making sure you have to pay top dollar for their program; it's worth every cent you spend!!
FYI....Disney Vacation Club timeshares consistently retain their value on the timeshare resale market more than any other timeshare resort property. The demand for these timeshares is very strong. Ive shopped them and found they are only discounted 5%-15% below the "new" price that you would pay directly from DVC.
Just to confirm...Disney Vacation Club ownerships are very highly requested by customers of Timeshare Adventures. They sell faster than any other timeshare ownership(followed closely by Marriottt) and also rent-out quite easily as well.
Timeshare Adventures has even dedicated an entire page of our web-site specifically to DVC. The following will link you to our Disney Vacation Club web-page:
I believe that DVC (Disney Vacation Club) has the right to exercise 'First Right of Refusal' on their properties as well. This helps to keep the value of their points at a premium. Hence the minimal depreciation of their points.
Disney Vacation Club - DVC - 'First Right of Refusal'
Hello sunseeker-
You are correct about the First Right of Refusal. In fact, many resorts and/or ownership groups have this clause in their contracts, but few actually act on it. Disney Vacation Club is one of the exceptions and they do actively use this to maintain the value of their ownership.
As I mentioned a few posts ago, DVC is the most popular vacation ownership in the world and Timeshare Adventures is very successful in bringing Disney Vacation Club buyers, sellers and renters together.
