In 2004 the state of Florida initiated standards establishing rules for guest lodging facilities to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution. The Florida Green Lodging Program has designated Grande Vista, Cypress Harbour and Crystal Shores on Marco Island, all Marriott properties. These are the first resorts to acquire this Florida Green status. Marriott's Troy Asche had this to say about the honor:

“Now, more than ever, environmental stewardship is a critical part of delivering unforgettable vacation experiences to our Owners and guests and vital to the future of travel and tourism,” said Troy Asche, regional VP of the company in the Florida-Caribbean region. “By taking strategic steps to ‘green’ our resort operations, our collective efforts can make a huge impact on preserving our beautiful Florida environment.”

Additionally, I have read that Gov. Christ will make these green resorts as first choices for business and company conferences.
Florida has a delicate eco-system and when resorts make an effort to be more green, it will make a difference. Recycle more and more. Using environmentally safe products for cleaning and maintenance will keep destructive chemicals out of Florida's waters and sandy soil. Kudos to Marriott for implementing these changes in Florida.
