Default RCI Timeshare Convert to points?

Needing some timeshare advise about RCI points vs. an actual week at my resort. Resort wants us to convert to the RCI points program. Is this a benefit or no? Any advise is appreciated; thanks.

Wink Timeshare Points with RCI

There is a lengthy explanation about points in this forum under Trading or exchanging your timeshare property. Check the thread that starts out as Timeshare confusion. I have been trying to get all this straight. I believe that having points instead of a week means you will have more flexibility about when and where you use your timeshare vacation. Hope this helps.

Default RCI Points not deeded timeshare points

CaMama: I appreciate the follow-up, but I did read a few of the timeshare forum posts under the Trading or exchanging your timeshare property, but to clarify I'm not asking about a points-based timeshare like Disney Vacation Club, Wyndham, Bluegreen WorldMark, Shell or any of the other I have read about. My timeshare is at the Grandview in Las Vegas and when we purchased the timeshare we bought a week. I now understand that this timeshare resort is sold out of their weeks and are now somehow partnering-up with RCI(the exchange company they use) and selling Grandview timeshare with RCI points as opposed to an actual week. The RCI Points program is what I think it's called. So, you do have deeded ownership at the Grandview and can redeem the RCI points for time at the resort or exchange with RCI, I think. Anyways, still wanting advice! Thanks!

Default RCI Timeshare Points Program

While I do not have any personal experience with the use of RCI Points, I will attempt to provide a general overview of what is offered and how this program is designed to work from the information I have gathered.

RCI Points: A type of timeshare ownership in an RCI affiliated resort, where RCI has assigned a certain point value for all RCI timeshare resorts, designating a specific number of points for a vacation stay of one night or more, for any unit size and any time of the year.

The points can be exchanged through RCI for shorter or longer vacations in any unit size desired, as well as cruises, airfare, car rentals, and hotel reservations. If you want to stay somewhere there is no timeshare, you may be able to use your RCI points for select hotels.
