Timesharing in Spain
I have traveled in Spain several times and used my RCI exchanges to stay in timeshares there. The Pueblo Laguna Beach Club II in Vera, which is near the town of Almeria, was our base of exploration when we drove up the eastern seacoast of Spain. The timeshare was a white stucco townhouse surrounded by the, typical for Spain, profusion of flowering plants and tiled water fountains. We were entertained at night by flamenco dancers in their clubhouse dining room. Two sites stand out in my memory, Morella and Peniscola. Above the rugged and steep coastline are desert areas and mountains. Many potters live in these hills. When we visited the walled city of Morella up in the mountains it was so cold my wife had to buy a sweater. We understood why the local women specialized in making mohair sweaters for sale. Built in 4500 BC, you can well imagine how many times Morella was occupied by Celts, Romans, and Carthaginians and Arab nations. It was occupied by the French in 1810 and liberated to Spain in 1813. I really love history, so I hope I’m not boring you if you wanted to hear about beaches, etc. We did have a memorable meal at Restaurante el Mason there.
Another day trip was to the Templar Castle at Peniscola which was built in the 13th century (Moslem origin) and later occupied by the exiled Pope Luna in 1411. You will see in the photo that this castle held a very secure spot on the coast and it was occupied by many different countries over time. The movie, El Cid, was filmed there. I highly recommend, well you must have, a car to get around there and driving is not too scary.
