I am taking the family on vacation to Hawaii this fall. Going for a couple of weeks and I'm thinking about renting a timeshare. Looking for some family freindly ideas.
We loved Maui. Try the timeshare resorts in the Ka'anapali area. The beaches are beautiful and you can snorkel right off the beach. We stayed at the Westin and it was first class. We also enjoyed the "Road To Hana" which takes you thru some breath taking views and stop at the black sand beach after the waterfalls.
Hi! I wanted to let you know that the pool and outdoor area at the resort are totally kid friendly. The pool has a pirate theme and my sister kids loved it. The rooms are nice and no one tried to sell us a timeshare. I was suprised since we were renting from another owner. Hope this info is helpful for your Maui vacation.
We are Hawaii fanatics and Kauai is our favorite and it is absolutely gorgeous! There are all kinds of things to do there, but we are the adventurous, outdoor type and we enjoy boating, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, and hiking. Believe it or not, my husband and I are in our early to mid-sixties, have been timesharing for 30 years and when we visited our timeshare this year we tried surfing and Ziplining!
Our resort is with Marriott Vacation Club and they have always treated us with superb customer service, so we have never had to rent a timeshare, but this looks like a good place to do it. The concierge at our resort is the one who told us about the Ziplining and he also set-up a breathtaking helicopter ride through the jungles and waterfalls NEARBY!
Hawaii is filled with all kinds of things to do, but I recommend doing the things you can't do near your home. Think young, have fun and share your experiences with those you love...
Aloha,
Lucille

Just a heads up. We love hawaii and just returned from Kauai with our youngest 2 kids (20 & 17) We are in our early 50's. It was not our first trip but it was theirs. We stayed at the Marriott in Poipu. The resort was beautiful but we would not return to Kauai. There is not much going on on the island of Kauai. We did kayakand snorkel, but we all felt the island was dead. Two years ago we stayed at the Ko'Olina on Oahu. That was great. Secluded, but close enough to Downtown Honolulu. The kids loved it and so do we. I think you need to think about what you want from a vacation and try the different islands before you buy.
If you want a better balance between nature and shopping etc. then I sugguest buying a Maui timeshare. You have Lahaina that has a lot going on or try the Road To Hana and pay a visit to the water falls or the black sand beach state park. Maui has the best of both worlds. My kids are younger but they loved it when my sister was married in Maui and we stayed at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. Turtles could be seen swimming right off the beach. Great location and the pool area was very kid friendly.
Kauai/Princeville is famous for its mountaintop bogs and rain forests, deep canyons, tangled valleys, coral reefs and golden-sand beaches. It's rugged interior and the spectacular cliffs of the NaPali Coast remain wild and uninhabited, so it's the natural beauty that attracts so many to this exclusive area. It's a bit more wet than the other islands(it's a rain forest after all), but it makes for spectatular fauna!
For those looking for active night-life, sprawling urban shopping centers, and a more tourist friendly enviorment may want to take the advise of parker.

Looking to rent-out a timeshare in Hawaii. Marriott seems popular throughout the posts here, but I have a friend who swears by Westin in Ka'anapali. Any suggestions? Been to trip adviser and sites like that and both get high ratings- still seeking 1st hand experience. Thanks.
