I am curious. Is there a group of travelors out there that just goes directly to the rentals available as their routine approach to finding cost effective vacation opportunities? People who just like to rent by the week and not be committed to any program. Would that be a large group or a small one? Do you have a way to know?

BUT, I did buy a timeshare after several rentals! I found something I liked and bought the timeshare(Marriott - Vail, CO) from the same owner I rented from and got a deal.

A-ha! Both the owner and the traveler are given an advantage when renting a timeshare. Since we are presumably traveling to destinations we love or are interested in loving...a logical outcome would be to make a committment to return...and have it be affordable. I actually hadn't thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out!

With a timeshare rental you have the ability to trade your timeshare for someone else at a different destination. This is a great way to travel the world without having to spend and arm and a leg. There are also a lot of scams out there that charge you for practically doing anything with your timeshare. However, there are others that give you flexibility of dates, location, and length of stay. There are even timeshare rentals that have all different activities that appeal to both kids and adults.

| | Timeshare renting vs Trading
I heard that it was a lot easier to rent....even if you already have your own timeshare...than it is to trade. I see some owners complain about fitting into the week or points requirements. Is there important strategies when buying that would insure you could easily trade?

| This question has been asked before in the Trading or Exchanging your Timeshare Property section of our forum. It's a good and fairly common question. Basically, in order to ensure simple and quality exchanges it's best to buy at a nice resort in a desired area. There's been some discussion regarding timeshare trading power HERE.
