Do I need an appraisal to sell my timeshare like when selling a home? Years ago, I was told that an appraisal would be done to determine the value of my timeshare, but have heard the this may not be necessary. What's the story? Is this optional, required, or unnecessary?
There is no need for an appraisal to sell your property unless you are donating the timeshare to charity and need the appraisal for tax purposes.
So, simply put, NO you do not need an appraisal to sell your timeshare. What you have, while on paper is usually deeded property, is in reality 'time', which cannot be appraised. Does timeshare adventures take timeshares as donations or assist with that? I used to be able to donate to a couple different organizations and rid myself of the dues, but now for some reason they want to keep the timeshare in my name until it has been sold and I would still be responsible for the dues..don't know why?

In order for a charity to accept a timeshare as a donation they need to to be able to turn the donation into liquid cash by selling it simply and relatively quickly. Otherwise the timeshare and it's associated fees are as much a burden for them as it could have been for you.
They will base the acceptance or rejection of the time share based entirely on it being easy to sell.

If you don't owe too much on your timeshare you can sell it for a reasonable price. Donating to a cause is very honerable but you'll do much better financialy if you sell your time share ownership.
Read the link below and you'll see how complicated donating your time share is. I looks like it ISN'T even tax deductible.

True, the donation is a noble idea, but I think most just want a way to unload the annual MF and taxes attached to a timeshare and if that's the case I say just price it reasonably low, be negotiable and sell the timeshare!
