Based on expierence, which exchange company does a better job. I need to know before I buy.

Default RCI or Interval International

Timeshare Adventures maintains a neutral position when it comes to favoring one exchange company over another. Both RCI and Interval International have their benefits and amazing resorts and vacation destinations can be found in either community.

Timeshare Adventures makes this forum available to everyone for the purpose of expressing their opinions and we invite you to share your experience with RCI and Interval International.

This is a "Coke vs Pepsi" question but it may be a moot point. The resort you own is probably affiliated with only one exchange company. There are, however, a few resorts affiliated with both. Do not let the resort's affiliation affect your decision to own or buy at the resort. Although there are preferences among people who have experience with both major exchange companies, there is no unanimous opinion that one is better than the other.

Is this kind of like a Verizon or MCI deal, or do you have choices of smaller companies as well to work with? It seems to me (I'm new to this) that there are only these 2 companies out there, which kind of worries me. I mean I am worried about any industry in which there is a monopoly market like that and one or two companies make all the rules.

Am I being paranoid?

Question

Rambutan,

I know, from my research it seems that there are only two to choose from-I too have the concern of a monopoly in the timeshare biz..but who are we to say as newbies?

Maybe someone out there can clarify why there seems to be only two to choose with what could be a coin toss versus a wide array to make an educated decision.

Post RCI & Interval International

It's true, RCI and Interval International are the "Ying & Yang" of the vacation property exchange industry. Generally resorts are going to be affiliated with one or the other, however there are a few that are associated with both exchange companies.

There are a couple of smaller independent exchange companies out there that offer similiar services. I would imagine the smaller exchange companies offer better customer service with a limited vacation property selection and the opposite for RCI & II.

I don't feel this a monopoly, simply a matter of having a jump start on the industry and offering a wider variety of vacation destinations; more like Ford & GM.

Rob-

Thanks for the insight-I didn't know about the second option with the smaller independent companies who offer limited properties. I, myself am big on customer service, so I would probably opt for the smaller companies. I would be willing to wait for the right property in order to get good service. I am a quality over quantity type of gal.

Default RCI or II

Just dropped our membership with RCI after 26 years. For excellent alternative, try DialanExchange. Went to them three years ago - it works beautifully. We have gotten exactly where/what we wanted on exchange with DAE when RCI would only make it available to us as a rental for $5000.00 per week. Website is www.daelive.com.
